“WGVU had stagnated with its grants strategy for many years. Our previous grants manager focused on just maintaining funding, while also having to manage the projects. This did not allow for much growth. So, when our previous grants manager retired, I decided to rework our grants strategy. We hired a new grant writer, and since he started, we have had him focus mostly on writing more grants so we can diversify funding, especially since one of our longtime funders shifted strategies and indicated we would be receiving less funding from them. In his first year, this resulted in WGVU receiving 12 grants, half of them from new funders, totaling around $200k in new funding. The Grant Center was key in helping our new grant writer learn more about the public media funding landscape, as his background was outside of public media. Meegan has been a wealth of knowledge in this aspect especially, so we would recommend anyone who wants to learn more about grants in public media to sign up for The Grant Center!”

“The Grant Center has been an indispensable tool for me to learn about the public media grants landscape. While I had a background of writing grants for mostly arts nonprofits, I did not have any experience working in public media. But I knew that with the wide array of topics that are covered in public media, and the makeup of the local philanthropic scene, there were numerous opportunities out there for us. One thing that Meegan opened my eyes to is the possibility of finding partners for a recent state (MI)/federal grant initiative focused on digital equity. Because Meegan had mentioned that collaboratives of nonprofits were applying for these grants, and that media literacy would certainly be under the umbrella of digital equity, we were able to get involved in two large collaborative grants. This may ultimately result in around $400k over the next 4 years for our education team to focus on improving media literacy in the community, and we would not have even known that it was possible to be involved in this opportunity if it were not for Meegan.”

"As a newcomer to the Public Media development world, grants can be overwhelming! It’s easy to get caught up in hours of research, combing through pages and pages of fine print and constantly asking 'is this really a good fit for us?' The Grant Center for Public Media has been a valuable resource to help ease these for our stations. The team at APTS does an excellent job showcasing a variety of grant opportunities from large federal programs to smaller community foundations. Their concise summaries save us hours of research time each year, and the ‘Fit for Public Media’ section makes it easy for us to identify which funding opportunities align with our goals and ambitions. Across public media, we are all trying to do more with less. Our Grant Center membership helps us spend less time researching, and more time pursuing valuable growth and funding opportunities."
- Matt Collins, Grants Manager, WCMU Public Media

“As a development professional with over 20 years’ experience, I rely on the Grant Center to be an extra set of hands in helping me identify funding sources for joint projects that are being considered by Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations (IPBS). Their research gave us a list of funding prospects that we could then consider approaching. We also invited Meegan to virtually join our IPBS annual conference this year. She hit it out of the park with a presentation tailored to the needs of Indiana stations, many who don’t have development staff with enough time to spend on grants. I wholeheartedly recommend investing in the Grant Center if you are looking to diversify your revenue through grants. It has saved me a lot of time!”
– Barbara Duke Sams, Marketing Manager, IPBS

“When I joined West Virginia Public Broadcasting, my expertise was primarily in federal grant management. To say the least, the realm of public media was fairly new to me, and I needed to catch up on the latest trends in grant management and seeking new grants through philanthropic organizations. Our membership with the Grant Center for Public Media proved to be an excellent resource for immersing myself in the intricacies of grant research for public media. They also regularly provide information on new grant opportunities that are relevant to our station and provide guidance when needed. Our membership not only provides insights into various grant opportunities but also facilitates connections with like-minded professionals nationwide. I highly endorse a Grant Center membership for any station committed to expanding its funding streams through grants.”
