On Wednesday, February 13, Government Relations Director Jennifer Kieley testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology at an educational hearing on the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act of 2010 (STELA). Jen joined representatives from the Motion Picture Association of America, the National Association of Broadcasters, DISH and the FCC to educate Members about the basic issues and current law, so Members will be prepared for future discussions on the reauthorization of this law which is set to expire at the end of 2014.
As a reminder, STELA is the law that governs the satellite carriage of local television stations. During the last reauthorization of the satellite legislation, APTS was successful in including language that mandated the HD carriage of local public television stations by all satellite carriers that were providing local HD service and did not already have a deal with APTS.
