One staff member at WHRO Public Media of Hampton Roads, VA, is making reading even more fun to local youth. Martha Razor, an early childhood coordinator takes “Raising Readers” van to resident schools and libraries, where students participate in activities that spur an interest in reading. The van is filled with books and games for the young demographic.
Razor takes the young children through the Reading Pledge as they excitedly learn and work on their reading skills. When the van – covered in some of PBS’ most treasured characters – gets set to leave, each child is given a book to keep.
As Razor and the familiar literacy van make their way through the area, children are continuing to become excited about reading.
