WGCU Public Media examines local issues affecting Southwest Florida through the program, Your Voice. On a quarterly basis, Your Voice probes a topic from multiple perspectives combining a television broadcast, radio shows, articles in their monthly member magazine/program guide, Expressions and online. Your Voice is a forum for discussion and an outlet for listeners and viewers to get involved.
WGCU premiered Your Voice in January 2009 with a look at Immokalee: The Challenge. The Hope. focusing on complex problems facing Immokalee's migrant farm workers as well as the people and agencies working to make a positive change. Your voice has covered an array of issues of concern with the local community. The topics include:
- The Economy: Where Do We Go From Here?
- Amendments: Florida’s Changing Constitution.
- Water: The Lifeblood of Southwest Florida.
- Education: The state of Public Schools in Southwest Florida, which featured a public forum co-sponsored by the Ft. Myers News-Press and the Naples Daily News with over 200 teachers, schools officials and concerned citizens in attendance.
- Addicted: The effects of addiction on individuals, families, communities and the health care system in Southwest Florida.
- Mental Health: WGCU’s episode of Your Voice during the week of November 14 looks at Mental Health issues in Southwest Florida.
WGCU has devoted over 40 hours of TV and radio airtime to Your Voice, as well as dozens of articles in its monthly member magazine and online.
