WASHINGTON — October 31, 2013 — The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) today praised the confirmation of Tom Wheeler as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and Michael O’Rielly as a Commissioner of the FCC.
“Tom Wheeler has been a leader in the telecommunications industry for more than 30 years, and he is extraordinarily well qualified to serve as chairman of the FCC,” said APTS president Patrick Butler. “We in public television look forward to working with Chairman Wheeler on a broad range of issues, and we congratulate him on his confirmation.
“We are also delighted by the confirmation of Michael O’Rielly as an FCC Commissioner,” Butler said. “Mr. O’Rielly has earned the trust of many of the most senior leaders of our government for his wise counsel, good judgment and broad knowledge of communications issues, and we believe the FCC is now extraordinarily well equipped to deal successfully with its challenging agenda. We also commend Acting Chairman Mignon for her superb leadership of the agency in these last several eventful months and Commissioners Rosenworcel and Pai for their stalwart service on a shorthanded Commission.”
