WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 7, 2021 – America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) today congratulated Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel on her confirmation by the Senate for a second term.

"Today marks an important landmark in the history of the FCC,” said APTS president and CEO Patrick Butler, “as Commissioner Rosenworcel’s Senate confirmation, following her designation by President Biden to serve as chair, means this remarkable public servant has become the first woman to permanently chair the FCC.

“The chairwoman brings rich experience, expertise and leadership skills to the work of setting the nation’s telecommunications policies, and America’s Public Television Stations look forward to working with the Chairwoman and the Commission to advance public television’s missions of education, public safety and civic leadership.

“We have demonstrated during the pandemic that public television datacasting can help revolutionize remote learning and bridge the digital divide,” Butler said, “and the widespread adoption of the NextGen TV ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard will enable public television stations to provide enable a host of essential new services for the American people, from telehealth to Smart Cities connections to national security applications and beyond.

“The FCC under Chairwoman Rosenworcel’s leadership can help us realize this vision, and we have no higher priority.”
